The big question is do you need to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp or Parallels just so that you can run the Windows version of Office, or can you get by with just buying the Mac version (or, better, using one of the installations that comes with your Office 365 subscription)? Microsoft recently announced a big update to Office 2016 for Mac.

Select “About Word”.The Windows version of Microsoft Office has always been the gold standard for office suites, as far as features are concerned. If you’re using Office for Mac, open one of the Office programs, such as Word, and click on the Word (or Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) menu. You’ll see a dialog box with additional information about the current version of the program and your Product ID towards the bottom. For even more information, click “Additional Version and Copyright Information”. Under About Microsoft Word (or other Office program), the exact version and build number is listed, along with whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit. On the right side of the File screen, you’ll see which edition of Office you’re running. On the File screen, click “Help” in the list of items on the left. To find out more information about which version of Office 2010 you’re using, click the “File” tab. If the ribbon in your version of Office has tabs with corners that are not quite so sharp, you are likely using Office 2010. The version and build number are listed at the top of the About dialog box along with either “32-bit” or “64-bit”. To find out whether your version of Office is 32-bit or 64-bit, click “About Word”. Under Office Updates, the exact version number and build number are listed. On the right side of the Account screen, you’ll see which edition of Office you’re using and whether or not you have a subscription product.
